The CRC legislation affects the UK’s largest organisations – 2,779 known as the Registered Participants in the Scheme. This means the UK’s largest companies, irrespective of parent company location, and all major public bodies. It means all large non-energy intensive organisations in sectors ranging from retail to utilities, from IT to Government, from financial services to telecommunications.

All of these organisations have to report to the Government on their CO2 emissions. From October 2011 the Government will publish league tables showing the relative performance of all participants. As a result CRC is placing energy management and compliance with this mandatory legislation on the board agenda of all ‘obliged‘ organisations.
