The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme came into law in April, 2010. The objective of this mandatory CRC legislation was to improve the efficiency of the energy use within large energy consumers in the UK. The legislation aims to reduce carbon emissions from these organisations by 1.8 million tonnes of CO2 per year in 2010-2015, rising to 4.4 million tonnes by 2020.
In July 2011 DECC announced its outline proposals for how the CRC will evolve from 2013.
